Emerging Markets Private Equity

China remained the favourite among Asia private equity funds, getting $14.5 billion in 2008, compared to $3.9 billion in 2007. India-dedicated emerging markets private equity funds raised $7.7 billion in 2008 against $4.6 billion in 2007.
The scenario appears to be bright for private equity in India in 2009. According to a research report quoted in Business Standard, over 75 private equity players plan to raise $24 billion during the year, three times last year’s figures!
The future seems positive on a global scale, especially for Asia private equity players. A survey conducted by Preqin in December 2008 found that 29 percent of investors intended to increase their private equity portfolios in the medium to long term, while 67 percent planned to maintain their allocations
